EUSO President Michael A. Cotter

Welcome to EUSO 2012, in the beautiful city of Vilnius, capital of Lithuania.

On April 22nd delegations of sixteen year old science students and their mentors from the EU member states will arrive in this historic location for the 10th EUSO. Over the next week the students will carry out multi disciplinary experiments in teams of three, under the watchful eyes of Professor Aivaras Kareiva of Vilnius University (VU), Chairman of the Scientific Committee. They will also experience a social, cultural and educational programme highlighting the very best that Lithuania has to offer. This is a golden opportunity for over 150 young European scientists to get to know each other in genial atmosphere and form lifelong friendships which may lead to collaboration and cooperation in their future careers.

On behalf of the students and their mentors I want to thank sincerely the Minister for Education Mr. Gintaras Steponavičius for supporting this unique EU wide event in his country. This is a major undertaking of significant important to the future of science education within the EU. I also want to thank EUSO 2012 organizing team for their dedication, commitment and hard work in making EUSO 2012 a reality for all of us.
