Participation eligibility

EUSO is a practical team competition for EU students who are 16 years of age or younger on the December 31st prior to the competition. Students born on or after 1st of January 1995 are therefore eligible to participate in EUSO2012.  Each EU member state which has either participated fully in or sent an observer to the EUSO before is invited to send a delegation of six students (two teams) and three mentors, one for each discipline; Biology, Chemistry and Physics. The hospitality expenses of 6 students and 3 mentors are covered by the organizing country.

Observers & visitors

Organizers warmly welcome observers and visitors to EUSO2012. These guests however must pay participation fee of 1000 EUR per person to cover all hospitality expenses. The fee does not cover single room occupancy.


Each person arriving to EUSO2012 must be registered on the website prior April 1st, 2012. Should you encounter difficulties during this process, please contact the EUSO2012 office. We will contact you personally for the additional information (arrival times, pictures) after we receive your registration data.

Arrival & departure

Each participating country must pay the travel expenses of their delegation to Vilnius International Airport (VNO) or Vilnius Bus Station (Sodų str. 22, Vilnius) and must provide adequate travel, medical and other insurance for its entire delegation. EUSO2012 team will meet you and will provide transportation to the hotel. Should any delegation member needs special care or is of a limited mobility, please inform the organizers prior to arrival in either registration form or contacting us directly.

Delegations arriving before April 22nd and/or staying on after April 29th must pay for their own additional expenses. The Organizing committee will assist in arranging accommodation. Additional tours may be organized for EUSO2012 delegations if requested.


All EUSO2012 guests will be accommodated in the same 3* hotel in the centre of Vilnius. There are rooms for 3-4 persons for students, and double rooms for mentors and observers. There are single rooms for leaders for additional fee of 40€ per night. We kindly ask paying the fee prior to arrival (see bellow) or at the EUSO2012 registration desk (cash only). EUSO2012 office can arrange accommodation in the same hotel for early arrivals or delegations leaving after April 29th.

Observer and single room fees are welcomed to be paid in euros via bank transfer before April 4th, 2012. Please use the following information for international (SEPA) transfers:

Lithuania is a member of the Schengen zone therefore personal ID card is a valid travel document for most of the delegations. Please check the requirements at your travel agencies.

Students must possess a document with picture for the birth date validation. International Student Identity Card (ISIC) is recommended as it provides a number of discounts.

All delegation members must be provided with adequate travel, medical and other insurance by their sending organization. We kindly ask that all our guests would have European Health Insurance Card (EHIC) in their possession during all the stay in EUSO2012.

We are kindly asking mentors to assure that all students would possess legal consent of their parents or guardians to take pictures of students and publishing them online on webpage or EUSO2012 Facebook account. Another form is required to be signed by parents or guardians to assure that students are allowed to take part in sport activities of swim. You can download special form here.


The weather in Lithuania is unpredictable in the end of April; therefore please refer to the forecasts before leaving for Vilnius. Everybody should have apparel suitable for rainy weather (raincoat and umbrella) and for official events as opening and closing ceremonies.

Students will have an opportunity to enjoy some indoor sports and water activities, therefore every participant are asked to bring their sports and swimming clothing. There is a gym available not far from the hotel for mentors.

Students will be provided with safety coats and goggles during the competition.


Lithuanian litas (1 litas = 100 centas = 0.29EUR) can be obtained from numerous currency exchange offices in the hotel’s area including the one working 24/7. Please note that there is a possibility to exchange all EU currencies directly to litas. There is no need to exchange or withdraw money at the airport.

All ATM and most shops accept major cards as VISA, VISA Electron, MasterCard, Maestro, and American Express.

Additional remarks

Students are kindly asked to bring their own calculators without graphing functions or text memory.
