EUSO president meets the Minister of Science and Education
Lithuania will host the European Union Science Olympiad (EUSO) for the first time this spring, on 22-29 April. The minister of science and education Gintaras Steponavičius welcomed the founder and president of the Olympiad Michael A. Cotter.
During the meeting Mr Cotter indicated that Lithuania is well prepared for the Olympiad and expressed his hopes that it will be one of the best Olympiads yet. A record-breaking number of teams from EU countries are to participate in this year’s Olympiad.
The minister was very fond of the idea to release a double volume book containing all the tasks and problems from all of the past 10 Olympiads. „It will be a perfect learning tool from children and teachers, the latter of which will be able to develop the practical skills of their pupils”, – said the minister G. Steponavičius.
The guest was very interested in the preparations for the tenth Olympiad where the participants will arrive from 23 European Union countries.
Lithuanian pupils have been taking part in this Olympiad since 2007 – 1 gold and 8 silver medals were earned by the nine teams which have participated in the Olympiad so far. All of them later on have chosen a scientific speciality in Vilnius University or abroad.
